Short history

The basic function of our music school is to give the basic musical knowledge. Though soon there were demands for advanced-level education. It was a long process of establishing the formal advanced-level education. It all started by expanding the programmes to the upper school grades at instruments classes (7th and 8th grades) and at special theory subjects.
Legally and formally aknowledged advanced-level education started in a recently established state when the music education was in full bloom. Thus Velenje became the third  music school with the advanced-level education programmes in Slovenia.
In 1992 the agreements were reached between the Ministry of Education and the Music School Velenje. In September 1993 the Music School Velenje received the concession from the state to be allowed to perform the advanced-level education; music-singing.

At the beginning there were 30 students participating in the instruments and singing programme. In the scholastic year 1997/1998 a new programme at the Art High School was introduced which currently involves 100 students. Our students attend two classes of the High School programme (Art High School/Parallel Education). The class of the Art Music School matches perfectly with the students attending Art School/painting programme (since the scholastic year 2001/2002). They organize together great music-artistic performances. The students achieve excellent results at national and international competitions. They proceed with their studies at the universities in Slovenia as well as abroad (Austria, Croatia, Germany, Belorussia, Danemark, Great Britain, USA).
